The involuntary and sudden contraction of a solitary or group of muscles is commonly referred to as a muscle spasm. Spasms can also result from an abrupt energy increase in the muscles. Muscle spasms actually are the body’s natural response to try to prevent further movement of already injured muscles. The primary areas most prone to painful spasms are the back and neck, although all muscles within the body are disposed to contraction. By allowing yourself sufficient rest, you are also allowing the affected muscles a time to be immobilized which will help to prevent further stress on the injured muscles. This rest allows effective recovery of the muscles.

Exercises for the back that focus on stretching the muscles will help to loosen the tightened back muscles. By performing exercises designed to stretch tightened muscles this will help to stop the muscles from spamming.
